Mitropoli, the head of the homonym municipality, is 9 km westwards of Karditsa.
As you leave Karditsa, Mitropoli is the first station on the way to Plastiras lake. From Mitropoli you have the opportunity to choose between two different roads to the lake. The first passes through the Hydroelectric station
(Δ.Ε.Η)and Moshato and leads to Tsardaki. The second and shortest ( 6 km ) is very easy and leads to Morfovouni. Mitropoli is built at the entrance of the ancient pasage that lead from the valley of west Thessaly to the plateau of Nevropolis, where Plastiras lake and south Pindos(Agrafa mountains) are.
It is known that the current position of the village was in antiquity «Metropolis People-Πόλις των Μητροπολιτών» and dates from around 500 BC.It found two Roman baths - one of which is a mosaic depicting the plunder of Europe from the Cross - housing relics from the classical and Roman period ceramic oven and more.
The cathedral was the center pottery in antiquity, as evidenced by the many pottery kilns found in the fabric of the ancient settlement. One of these kilns has been transferred to the central square of the village and continuing emergence of the work.
Sights
The church of Agios Georgios (located in the central square, next to the new temple and declared a preserved historical. The temple is a masterpiece of art. Beneath the floor of the temple portico is that tradition says that lead outside the village in position « lianokokkala », which has recently discovered ancient temple of Apollo.

The Cathedral has an outdoor theater with 1,200 seats every summer hosted troupe from Greece with notable performances and music concerts where the audience gathered around the county.

feast on the eve of the Holy Spirit (about when the end of the tobacco plant) with cracked wheat and municipal music offered to visitors at the chapel of St. Nicholas. This is a very beautiful area with tall oaks.

ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΗ
Ο επισκέπτης που θα πάει από την Καρδίτσα στην λίμνη Πλαστήρα, θα περάσει από τον Δήμο Μητρόπολης και θα διασχίσει την έδρα του Δήμου, την Μητρόπολη που απέχει μόλις 8 χλμ. από την Καρδίτσα. Είναι γνωστό ότι στην θέση του σημερινού ομώνυμου χωριού κατά την αρχαιότητα υπήρξε «η Πόλις των Μητροπολιτών» και χρονολογείται περίπου από το 500 π.Χ. Ο οικισμός της Μητρόπολις αποτελεί κηρυγμένο αρχαιολογικό χώρο επίσημα από το 1964 με Υπουργική απόφαση. Συγκεκριμένα έχουν βρεθεί δυο Ρωμαϊκά λουτρά – σε ένα από τα οποία υπάρχει ψηφιδωτό που απεικονίζει την αρπαγή της Ευρώπης από το Δια - οικιστικά λείψανα από την κλασική και ρωμαϊκή περίοδο, κεραμικός κλίβανος και πολλά άλλα. Η Μητρόπολη υπήρξε κέντρο αγγειοπλαστικής κατά την αρχαιότητα, πράγμα που αποδεικνύεται από τους πολλούς κεραμικούς κλίβανους που βρέθηκαν μέσα στον ιστό του αρχαίου οικισμού. Ένας από αυτούς τους κλίβανους που αποκαλύφθηκε από την ΙΓ’ ΕΠΚΑ, έχει μεταφερθεί στην κεντρική πλατεία του οικισμού και συνέχονται οι εργασίες ανάδειξης του.
Αξιοθέατα
Ο ναός Αγίου Γεωργίου (βρίσκεται στην κεντρική πλατεία, δίπλα στον νέο Ναό και έχει χαρακτηριστεί ιστορικά διατηρητέος. Το τέμπλο του είναι ένα αριστούργημα τέχνης. Κάτω από το δάπεδο του Ναού υπάρχει στοά, που η παράδοση λέει ότι οδηγούσε έξω από τον οικισμό στη θέση «λιανοκόκκαλα», όπου πρόσφατα έχει ανακαλυφθεί Αρχαίος Ναός του Απόλλωνα. Σπίτια διάσπαρτα, μέσα στους δρόμους του χωριού που διατηρούν ακόμα τα αρχιτεκτονικά χαρακτηριστικά του τόπου (πλινθόκτιστα ή πέτρινα κτισμένα από ποταμίσια πέτρα, με ξυλοδεσιές, ξύλινα χαγιάτια και σε μερικά σημεία βαμμένα με το χαρακτηριστικό έντονο λουλακί)
Φυσικές ομορφιές
Την Μητρόπολη διασχίζει ο ποταμός Γαβράς. Δροσερές στιγμές το καλοκαίρι μπορεί να βρει κανείς στο Δημοτικό Αναψυκτήριο το οποίο είναι κτισμένο στην όχθη του. Εκδηλώσεις Η Μητρόπολη διαθέτει υπαίθριο θέατρο 1200 θέσεων όπου κάθε καλοκαίρι φιλοξενούνται θίασοι από όλη την Ελλάδα με αξιόλογες παραστάσεις αλλά και μουσικές συναυλίες όπου συγκεντρώνονται θεατές από όλο το Νομό.
Έθιμα – παραδόσεις – πανηγύρια
Το πανηγύρι τις παραμονές του Αγίου Πνεύματος (περίπου όταν τελειώνει το φύτευμα του καπνού) με δημοτική μουσική και πλιγούρι που προσφέρεται στις επισκέπτες, στο Ξωκλήσι του Αγίου Νικολάου. Πρόκειται για πολύ όμορφη περιοχή με πανύψηλες βελανιδιές.
Καταλύματα
Ο Δημοτικός Ξενώνας «Αφροδίτη» (50 κλινών) βρίσκεται στην περιοχή εκτός των ορίων του οικισμού πολύ κοντά στο Υπαίθριο θέατρο και πάνω σε λόφο, με πανοραμική θέα. Το καλοκαίρι βρίσκει κανείς δροσιά όλες τις ώρες στον υπαίθριο χώρο του. Πηγή: htpp//mitropolis.gr/
